WHAT IS THE DRUM CIRCLE FACILITATOR COURSE?

The Drum Circle Facilitator Course is a practical one-day training experience designed to give you the skills and confidence to lead welcoming, inclusive and enjoyable group drumming sessions.

You’ll learn how to introduce instruments, teach accessible rhythms, guide call-and-response activities, manage group energy and create a clear session structure from the opening welcome through to a calm closing.

The course is suitable for wellbeing practitioners, community workers, teachers, activity coordinators and anyone interested in bringing people together through shared rhythm. You do not need to be an experienced drummer, as the focus is on facilitation, communication and creating a positive group experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE DAY

The day begins with a relaxed welcome and an introduction to the role of a drum circle facilitator.

We’ll explore how to prepare the space, introduce the instruments and help participants feel comfortable—even if they have never played a drum before.

Throughout the course, you’ll take part in practical exercises covering simple rhythms, call-and-response, group activities, volume control and ways to guide the energy of a session.

You’ll also have opportunities to practise leading parts of a drum circle in a small, supportive group.

We’ll finish by looking at how to plan your own sessions, manage different group needs and create a calm, meaningful ending.

ASSESSMENT, CERTIFICATE AND ACCREDITATION

This is a practical, competency-based course. Throughout the day, you’ll receive guidance, encouragement and constructive feedback as you practise the skills needed to lead a drum circle safely and confidently.

Practical Assessment

You’ll plan and lead part of a drum circle, demonstrating clear communication, accessible rhythms, group awareness and safe facilitation.

Certificate of Competence

On successful completion, you’ll receive your Goodlife Wellness Training Academy Drum Circle Facilitator certificate.

IPHM Accredited

The course is accredited by the International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine, reflecting its structured content, practical learning and assessment.

Anyone planning to offer professional drum circles should check the requirements of their own insurer, venue and organisation before beginning practice.

LEARN WITH AN EXPERIENCED DRUM CIRCLE FACILITATOR

Your course will be taught by Neil Gale, an experienced drum circle facilitator, wellbeing practitioner and IPHM-accredited trainer with more than 50 years of personal drumming experience.

Neil regularly leads community drum circles, wellbeing workshops and practical drum-based training. His teaching style is relaxed, supportive and focused on helping every student develop their own confidence rather than copying one fixed way of facilitating.

Training takes place in the welcoming surroundings of Goodlife Wellness in Garforth, with small groups, individual attention and plenty of opportunity to practise.
